DRAFT PREVIEW: Pick 72 – New England Patriots

The Patriots are without a pick in either of the first two rounds, but they still have needs to fill in this year’s Draft.

Pick: 72

2016 Record: 14-2

What went right in 2016? Pretty much everything. A four game suspension for your quarterback and you come out of it 2-2, even though you had to play 40% of that time without your second string, either? A fifth Superbowl victory, including the biggest comeback in history? We could go on, but we won’t.

And what went wrong? Another season-ending injury for Rob Gronkowski, and possibly a career-ending one for Sebastian Vollmer. Remarkably, these were blips for the Patriots where they would’ve derailed other teams.

What do they need? Wide Receiver, Tackle, Defensive End, Linebacker, Running Back

Who will they pick? The Patriots spent their first round pick to acquire Brandin Cooks from New Orleans, but a good, young, receiver from deep in the Draft would be a very Belichick thing to do. Tennessee’s Josh Malone would be ideal for them.
