End of the 1st Quarter: Soaring Eagles exceeding expectations

The Philadelphia Eagles are perched atop the NFC East after a surprisingly good start to the year. Second year QB Carson Wentz continues to shine and our resident Eagle, Dave Rigby is already thinking playoffs…

Are the Eagles where you expected them to be after four games?

Probably not, no. 3-1 after three road games and top of the NFC East is a great start for us and probably exceeds expectations.

What’s been their best and worst performance?

The best was probably opening day vs Washington. We haven’t won there for years and we played a solid game, nothing spectacular but a good win against a divisional rival.
Worst was probably the 4th quarter against the Giants. It was criminal how we let them back into the game and it took an absolute wonder kick from Jake ‘The Make’ Elliott to win us the game. We did lose away against the Chiefs but thats a tough place to go for anyone and we only lost the game by a TD. It could’ve gone either way with a Carson Wentz Hail Mary at the end.

Who’s been your best player?

Tough to pick any individual, to be honest, and that’s not a cop-out. The new guys like Alshon Jeffrey and LeGarrette Blount have settled in well. Zack Ertz is making some great plays, Nelson Agholor is making catches and picking up yards. Wentz is progressing well making some good audibles and using his head better to read defences. The guys on defence have been great too stepping up for some injured players and keeping us in the game. All round it’s been a great team effort.

And the biggest disappointment?

Not so much a player but I’d say the injuries have been hugely disappointing. We’ve been hit with some big ones so far, with Darren Sproles out for the season and Fletcher Cox missing a few games. It’s a big injury business and every team gets them it’s how you deal with them and we seem to be OK at the moment.

Where do they most need to improve?

It’d be harsh to slate anyone at the moment, be that players or staff, but Doug Pederson has caught a bit of flack for his play calling and decision making at times, so far this season. It’d be nice to comfortably just kill a team off and win big too. We’re always in with a win or a loss right up until the end but I’m not complaining….

Will you make the playoffs?

We’re currently getting the job done almost every week, the team are gelling quite well and we’ve got a lot more attacking options than last season. However! Our schedule on paper is tough. It’s not going to be easy but if we do get there it’ll be fully deserved. We just need to keep this winning rhythm going.
